Disney Princesses and Its Good Role Models
Disney Princesses Are Great Role Models
Women are continually advancing and making inroads with regards to their independence, with the amount of respect they are receiving, and with their own empowerment. This is a good trend. Despite this, there is a common thought that steering young girls away from watching the best Disney movies with Disney princesses is in the best interest of the child.
There are a lot of arguments made that Disney princesses are detrimental to young girls. These characters are said to show a negative reflection of women and can inhibit girls from striving to be their best or maybe feeling like they can crash through the glass ceiling.
Early vs. More Modern Princesses
Certainly, some of the very early princesses may not have all the aspects that more modern princesses offer little girls, but they were a product of their time and the thinking during that time. Even still, they offer positive traits that girls and boys alike could learn from. These princesses don't deserve to be shunned from our children's repertoire of role models.
Cinderella, for instance, was always hopeful and positive about her situation. She tried to make the best out of everything and trusted in a better future. She most certainly wasn't a miserable hag who gave up on life just because her living situation wasn't ideal.
Additionally, Cinderella made sure to be kind to every person and every animal which is why most everyone but her stepmother and stepsisters adored her. Similar justifications can be made about the traits of Snow White and Sleeping Beauty.
As many more Disney princess and princess-esque stories have come to light the diversity and the wealth of thought in addition to admirable traits are plentiful. The vast personalities and varied stories that each princess has to offer can also provide young girls with a broad spectrum of appealing and valuable personality features that would be a benefit for their view of the world.
Which Disney Princesses Have Admirable Characteristics for Young Girls to Look Up To?
You could almost look at any story and princess and make a valid case for the positives that are readily available to young children.
Even though this is true, the following sampling of Disney princesses and their important character traits which any girl can look up to make for a solid defense that Disney princesses have a lot to appreciate.
Tiana
Tiana knows exactly who she is and what she wants. She is an extremely hard worker and relentless when it comes to achieving her goals. Tiana is caring and a decent person overall.
When Tiana's story took place, it was a time where black women had to endure many, almost insurmountable challenges to get ahead, and regardless of this she makes her own decisions and carves her own path in life. Her vigor is directly responsible for her own happy ending that she always wanted.
Yeah, she ends up with a man by her side, but what's wrong with embracing love? Anyone, even the strongest woman deserves to find "their person" in life.
Belle
There is so much about Belle that any parent can support. Belle dances to her own tune and lives her life the way she wants even when everyone around her makes fun of her for being weird.
She doesn't let it get her down she just continues to be herself. She is strong and curious. She is smart and loves to read and learn.
Belle is fearless and will take on the most dangerous challenges no matter what perils may exist. She even finds love with someone not because of their looks, or even charm, but because she actually saw a beast for who he was inside.
She values people not for their outward appearance but for what makes up their disposition and what is held within their hearts. No one can go wrong with a good movie night watching Beauty and the Beast.
Jazmine
Fierce and defiant, Jazmine will not be treated like an object or an accessory for some prince to wear as arm candy.
Jazmine is smart and cunning and she can understand how to read people. She knows when someone is good inside and when they are not.
Even though she is the daughter of a sultan, she doesn't purport herself in a way that is snobbish or condescending. Regardless of if you are a street rat or royalty, Jazmine will only give you the time of the day if you are a decent human being.
Ariel: More Than a Little Mermaid
Ariel is a dreamer and believes she can have a happy life no matter what hurdles stand in her way. She was willing to give up a vital part of herself just to live the life she believed was right for her.
She is also inquisitive about different cultures and lifeforms. No matter what anyone has to say or what they approve or disapprove of, Ariel stands by her principles and her truth.
Should Parents Let Their Girls Watch Disney Princess Movies?
Not only are princess movies whimsical and give you a fuzzy, happy ending, but they are also artfully constructed. The environments, the storytelling, and the vibrancy of the movies are stimulating. These movies always come with a theme and a valuable lesson to be learned which can be very impactful for young girls.
The princesses all have wonderful character traits that you'd want your child to engage in. Also, there are princesses of all colors and backgrounds that reflect the world. If kindness, friendliness, positivity, strong care for others, determination, and being courteous aren't your thing, then maybe stay away from Disney princess movies.
If these traits are something you want your girl to emulate, well, you and your child can enjoy one of the best Disney princess movies there are to choose from or maybe more than one that appeals to your sensibilities.
